Week 4

Meeting Others' Needs

Bible Focus

This week we are talking about caring for others.  This includes all of God's creation.  When we care for others, we show God how much we love Him.

God calls us to help others.  Sometimes we are to help them with things, sometimes with actions.  Here is Mrs. Heller sharing some times she has felt called to help others.

Wherever You Go

Science

In addition to helping other people, God wants us to take care of the earth and all the things on it.  If you go back to Week 2 and watch the Genesis video again you will hear that when God made people, he gave them the job of watching over the plants and animals and taking care of them. Genesis 1:26 says God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature, so they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, and, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.”  We don't always make the best choices when it comes to taking care of God's creation.  Here are a couple videos to help us learn how to be better caretakers.

This week, since we are talking about caring for others and caring for nature, we will make bird food!  One of  the things many birds like is suet.   Suet is usually beef fat and it provides a lot of energy for birds in the winter when other food is hard to find.  Here is a recipe for summer suet, which isn't as fatty for this time of year, and a recipe for "No-Suet Suet" which is  great for birds in the winter when  they need more fat.  You can make both recipes now if you want though the second one may get a little soft and squishy and be hard to handle in the heat.

Mission

Our final Mission Project is to help make Earth beautiful by picking up trash and litter.  You can look for trash and litter in your yard, on your street, or on a walk.  If you are going outside of your yard, make sure you have an adult's permission, take a bag, and wear gloves.  Roadsides tend to be very messy, but they are also dangerous, so only pick up litter by the road when you are with an adult.  Make sure to put the trash you pick up in the proper place.  Recyclables can go in your recycle bin.  Any cans or bottles that can be returned for deposits can earn you 5 cents each!
